Lately, one may notice that Barracuda Systems has put many security restrictions on websites in the Rensselaer City School District. Links such as Carmela’s Banquet House are blocked because they are considered to be uncategorized. Hopefully, the IT Department will make some adjustments as blocks have been put on sites that are appropriate and should not be blocked.

Below are questions for the Rensselaer City School District Board of Education. The views expressed in the attached article are solely the views of Rensselaer High School Senior Cieli Witko.
I am writing to complain that the Rensselaer Middle School will no longer exist next year. Yes, I am a senior and will not be here next year, but it still bothers me. The East Greenbush City School District is not doing this. I would understand if districts around us were taking such drastic measures. What is going on? I would like some answers. The majority of students do not even know what is going on. For the ones who do know, we have many questions, as well as other questions that we have not addressed. What happened happened to all of the money the district took in last year? Why is the district cutting back on the breakfast program? How much money did we actually lose? Why are we hiring more substitutes and firing qualified staff? And why is the district cutting back on supply budgets? These cuts are extremely upsetting. I feel that the President of the Board of Education shall reach out to the students and the parents on these matters. We have the right to know what is going on within our school. Please get us the answers we deserve.
There will be a meeting of the Rensselaer City School District Board of Education on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the Large Group Instruction room (LGI). Parents and individuals from both the school and the community are invited. There are many issues to address including school budget cuts for supplies, resignation of Superintendent of School, Gordon Reynolds, and contractual matters.
We strongly encourage all to attend. You make the ultimate decision in what stays and what goes. Our parents are the people who pay school taxes. They are the ones who shall make our educations be the best that they can be.
We will have a follow up article on these matters in the next issue of the Rensselaer High School Ramblurr. Stay connected for the information that is important to you. Comments and Letters to the Editor may be placed in Mr. Hoffman’s room during the school day.
