Below are questions for the Rensselaer City School District Board of Education. The views expressed in the attached article are solely the views of Rensselaer High School Senior Cieli Witko.
I am writing to complain that the Rensselaer Middle School will no longer exist next year. Yes, I am a senior and will not be here next year, but it still bothers me. The East Greenbush City School District is not doing this. I would understand if districts around us were taking such drastic measures. What is going on? I would like some answers. The majority of students do not even know what is going on. For the ones who do know, we have many questions, as well as other questions that we have not addressed. What happened happened to all of the money the district took in last year? Why is the district cutting back on the breakfast program? How much money did we actually lose? Why are we hiring more substitutes and firing qualified staff? And why is the district cutting back on supply budgets? These cuts are extremely upsetting. I feel that the President of the Board of Education shall reach out to the students and the parents on these matters. We have the right to know what is going on within our school. Please get us the answers we deserve.
